The Status of Some Upper Body Abnormalities and its Relationship with Mental Health in Female Students

چکیده
Background and Aims: Today, due to the increasing mechanical and sedentary lifestyle, the musculoskeletal abnormalities are becoming prevalent in the society. These abnormalities may have an impact on individuals' mental health. This research aims to investigate some upper body abnormalities and their relationship with mental health in female students of Payam-e Noor University in Bushehr.
Materials and Methods: In this study, 170 female students were selected through convenience sampling. Abnormalities such as scoliosis, forward head posture, kyphosis, and increased lordosis were measured using a flexible ruler, New York Test, chessboard, and scoliometer. Additionally, measurements were taken for body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio. All participants completed the General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-28).
Results: Results from one-sample t-tests revealed that issues related to lordosis among female students aged 15 to 24 exceeded societal norms (t = 31.5, p = 0.001), and a similar trend was observed for individuals aged 25 and older (t = 57.3, p = 0.003). Conversely, status in other abnormalities for participants fell within the normal range. Furthermore, vulnerability in certain aspects of mental health was observed among students, although there was no relationship between mental health and physical problems.
